Meanwhile, Seemajan Kalyan Samiti, an organization related to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Rajasthan, has started issuing eligibility certificates to such citizens to get citizenship.

Helping by organizing camps

A camp has been organized by the organization in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, where online applications are being made for citizenship of citizens coming from these three countries. Seemajan Kalyan Samiti has helped around 330 people from Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, Barmer and Jodhpur in areas bordering Pakistan to upload their documents on the citizenship portal – Indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in – launched by the Home Ministry.

What does the organization have to say?

According to a report in The Hindu, lawyer Vikram Singh Rajpurohit associated with the committee says that since the committee is a registered organization, it can issue the certificate. “One of our ministers, Tribhuvan Singh Rathod, is signing the eligibility certificates, we are a community-based organisation,” Rajpurohit said.

A photo posted on the committee’s Facebook page said the group was organizing a “free citizenship application camp” in Jaisalmer. Rajpurohit said, “There are hundreds of people who came to India before 2010 and have not yet got citizenship. I met a woman who came here in 1998 but did not have citizenship. In Jodhpur alone, there are around 5,000-6,000 such people. Let us tell you that under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), people from non-Muslim communities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who came to India before 2014 are to be given citizenship. Application for this has started.
